Well done to our juniors who competed at the Warwickshire County Championships. The Course was a good test for our athletes with mud, hills and a muddy ditch to contend with.

Ines Villalobos Finigan finished 24th in the U13 Girls. Peter Kippax finished 14th in the U15 Boys and Sam Barber (pictured) finished 5th in the U17 Men’s race.

Congratulations also to Kelton Aldridge who finished 7th in the Under 20 Men’s race.

This is Sam’s first cross-country season and he has made a great start. His dedication and hard work is certainly paying off.

Although we didn’t have any medallists this year many of our young athletes stepped up to more serious competition by competing in the Midlands Age Group championships at Nuneaton on August 13/14th.

The final race of the season took place in conditions considerably better than those at the previous race. The sun shone out of a blue sky and our athletes were complaining at the lack of mud!
Half term took its toll on numbers but those than ran committed themselves well. These included Morgan Hill (86th) and Joe Harte in his first season (94th) in the U11 boys race; Lucy Heppel (98th) and Lily Smith (104th) in the U11 girls race and Caitlin Harte (84th) in the U13 girls race. Peter Kippax (38th) Jamie Cooper (55th) and Jack Powell (65th) made a strong showing for the club in the U13 boys race. Peter had been off school sick during the week so his performance was particularly noteworthy.
We were obliged to provide officials for this event so grateful thanks, on behalf of the club, must go to Jane Heppel, Daniel Hill, Sarah Kippax and Darren Powell for volunteering to act as funnel marshalls and to the 'old hands' Nick Price and Richard Carney for their officiating skills.

Conditions can best be described as horrible, snow and mud – lots of it. All of our young athletes were very brave with freezing cold feet the biggest problem. We had 13 athletes competing. Once again our best team was the U13 boys with all three in the top 40 but special praise to Joe Thompson who finished a very impressive 8th backing up his 4th place in the Warwickshire last week.

Top bravery award goes to our U11 girls who all braved the cold and mud with no complaints.

We had 3 U11 boys with Tom McMillan 76th, Morgan Hill 81st and Joe Harte 98th. Our 4 U11 girls were Ines Villalobos Finigan 43rd (finishing with only one shoe), Lily Smith 88th, Poppy Close 100th and Lucy Heppel 108th.

Our very impressive U13 boys had Joe Thompson 8th and the improving Peter Kippax in 25th and Jamie Cooper improving as well in 37th. Caitlin Harte finished in 96th in the U13 girls, again with a smile despite the conditions.

We had 2 U15 boys with Hugo Villalobos Finigan finishing 35th (despite his fall) and Alex Hickl 69th.

Well done to all and see you at Perry Park on February 14th.
